Full Time ProgrammesThese courses are held at the KISE Campus in Kasarani, Nairobi and are conducted through lectures, tutorials and visits. Assessment of trainees is based on essays, Term Paper, written examinations, special project and Special Study Paper (SSP). Students are also exposed to practical attachments in Special Needs Education programmes country wide. Distance Learning ProgrammesThis is a training mode in which teachers and other personnel working or living with persons with special needs and disabilities are trained through distance learning. The programme offers the following course options, using the distance learning mode:
The Certificate courses through Distance Learning take one year while Diploma courses take two years just like the Full Time programme. Current Distance Learning Centers and Sessions The programme is currently conducted in 11 tutorial centers country wide. These include 9 teacher training colleges and 2 technical Institutes. These are Baringo, Bondo, Kagumo, Kericho, Kilimambogo, Machakos, Meru, Migori, Mosoriot, Coast Institute of Technology -Voi and Thika Technical. ExaminationsDiploma courses are currently examined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC). Certificate programmes are jointly examined by Ministry of Education and KISE. In both Certificate and Diploma courses, the final score for each paper comprise 30% Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and 70% final examination. Teaching PracticeIn the second year of the diploma programme, the students are required to undertake Teaching Practice that lasts 10 weeks.
